Grace & Lace_group The idea for the structure of these chairs came to me when I was a Weblo scout master for my sonŐs troop. This group is the third generation of chairs I made using stress skin construction; an idea adapted from airplane wing technology. My challenge was to use this concept to make a 90 degree bend and maintain it's structural integrity. The chair I am standing on weighs 11 lbs. and I weighed 220 lbs. I bounced on it like it was a diving board and the chair didn't seem to mind. This type of structure would not be possible with traditional solid wood construction. Presently,Sauder Manufacturing is making this chair. This design is nice enough to be used around dining room tables, and durable enough to withstand the most demanding installations. The different back motifs fit into many design concepts. Click here to see a wonderful installation with this chair by the Hatch Design Group. |
